My first scented candle

I’ve also gotten over one of my biggest fears recently.

I bought my first candle ever.

I’ve actually been afraid of fire my entire life because of a small fire we had in our house when I was a child. It kind of terrified me to a point where I could never light candles for birthday cakes and I would always blow out all the candles in the house during a blackout.

I know this sounds silly, but I would get really envious of bloggers and vloggers who talked about their awesome smelling candles. I was always too afraid of catching the house on fire to get my own.

I wanted my room to smell nice, but I found sprays and plug-in scents to smell too harsh and synthetic. So while browsing Target the other day, I came across the candle isle with my friends. We went around smelling candles and I fell in love with this one. It was a light, clean, flowery scent inside of a cute jar.

I decided to buy it along with a candle lighter to overcome my fear of fire.

When I got home, I was really excited to light my candle and fill my room with its scent. To be honest, I was actually afraid of using the candle lighter at first because of the slight possibility that it would explode in my hand. But after successfully lighting it the first time, I realized how easy it was.

And that is how I overcame my fear of fire.

The candle scent also motivated me to clean my room. Double yay! I couldn’t find this candle or line of “Pure Natural” by Chesapeake Bay Candle anywhere online, so it might only be sold in-stores at Target.

Also! I’ve basically finished this candle in the time it took me to post this, but I’ve already picked up my next candle :).

  1. ohh I love your new blog set up!! It’s so organized and fresh!!
That candle looks like it would smell so good!! I kinda have the same fear of you when it comes to candles because I feel that it could so easily catch fire… I have used a few candles and none of them have caused a fire so that is a good thing!! It made my room smell soooo good!

  2. Oh good on you for overcoming your fear :) Now you can have allll the nice candles haha! I’m looking for a vanilla one to light in winter right now.

  3. i once had a fear of matches! i couldn’t light one for the longest time! and i love candles. i try to have them lit because it’s so soothing!

  4. i kind of have the same fear, but with lighting matches b/c i burned my finger when i was little trying to strike a match :/ and i edited my 3CE post after looking at stylenanda’s page. Not sure if the one I got was an authentic 3CE product since it wasn’t on stylenanda. still i liked how it worked.

  5. Glad you were able to overcome your fear! I used to have a fear of matches and lighters, and that prevented me from buying candles for the longest time. Then I found out about candle lighters, and I’ve been on a candle hunt ever since :P I love the warm ambiance candle light creates, not to mention it makes the room smell so nice!

  6. Congrats on getting over your fear. I have a small collection of candles but I don’t light them up too often because I am afraid of the fire hazard but I think it’s fine as long as you’re vigilant about burning them. The scented ones really do freshen up a room.

  7. wow! you’re first candle? congrats :) we never use candles at home too. we use an electric oil burner but i always wanted to give candles a try. i’m always tempted whenever i see beautiful candles at the store :)

  8. I can’t imagine having a fire in the house when I was young. I would be traumatized too. scented candles are definitely fun! and I have plenty of faith that you won’t burn your house down!!! :D

  9. Congratulations on overcoming your fear! I would’ve been terrified too actually, and I still am sometimes.. though I haven’t had any real fires in my house when I was growing up. I love the look of this one, I should try and find a nice scented candle myself again too. I’ve been loving the Muji ones.

  10. I haven’t bought a scented candle yet! My only experience with candles indoors is for blackouts or getting the jack-o-lantern ready :/ Perhaps I have the same fear as you. I never even thought about it!

  11. I’m so glad you got over your fear! I have a bit of an obsession with scented candles, and this sounds lovely, I really like how it’s packaged too!

  12. That’s understandable because of what happened and I’m so happy now that you have overcomes your fear! You picked a wonderful first candle, and I hope you enjoy many more nice smelling ones :)

  13. I used to be like you except I never had the traumatic experience. I just was overly paranoid about fires. But once I tried my first scented candle, I’ve been addicted to them now!
